Enhancing Quality and Durability with Oven-Dried Planks

Planks have been an essential building material throughout human history, used for various constructions such as primitive hunting tools in the Stone Age, warships in the Viking Age, and are widely represented in the furniture assortment found in our living rooms today.

Every purpose for planks requires unique moisture levels. In shipbuilding, a relatively high moisture percentage is necessary, while planks used in furniture manufacturing require drying. With a water content ranging between 6-10%, the planks are considered "furniture-dry".

At S10Home, we take the drying process very seriously, which is why we have set the maximum moisture percentage for our planks at 9%. This means that our planks are 100% furniture-dry before manufacturing, ensuring they have the best possible conditions to maintain their structure.

We adapt to the seasons We adapt to the changing seasons, as it has a significant impact on the natural moisture of the wood, with humidity reaching its peak in winter and dropping to its lowest in summer. We take this into account and use oven drying on our planks according to the time of their felling.

Furthermore, the high water content will have a negative impact, as the planks may develop cracks, shrink, and bend significantly faster as the wood continues the drying process in the home. To maintain the stability of the planks over time, it is therefore crucial to control the moisture percentage.

At S10Home, we always ensure that the moisture in our planks is carefully adjusted. This not only guarantees that the plank table retains its necessary strength but also prevents it from warping or twisting in the long run. In other words, you don't need to worry about your S10Home plank table suddenly behaving strangely when you return home from work.
